On Saturday, September 12, the "At Ready" Confederate statue and accompanying cannons and cannon balls were removed from the front of the Albemarle County Courthouse, after being there for 101 years. The following day, a group of citizen activists gathered (led by Don Gathers) to offer personal reflections and prayers, together with a cleansing ceremony involving the burning of sage and the pouring of libations.
